
Ebola Virus Update: Ebola virus has once again created havoc in the central part of Africa. This disease spreading in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda has now put even WHO in tension. After which the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared this Ebola virus an international public health emergency (PHEIC). The latest update received this morning is that the risk of Ebola in Africa has increased further and the number of infected people has reached 321.
At the same time, big information has also come to light that America is going to reduce visa processing centers in Africa. Due to which the number of embassies will be reduced from 50 to only 20.
Many deaths have occurred due to Ebola virus
In May 2026, cases of these new viruses were seen in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces of DR Congo. According to health officials, it is of the ‘Bundibugyo’ variant, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment is currently available. Initial reports have recorded hundreds of suspected cases and deaths.
Alert issued in Uganda, Africa
According to international media and WHO, the infection is spreading rapidly. Situation in Congo Armed conflict, attacks on health centers and a weak health system in DR Congo have complicated the situation. Identification of the outbreak was delayed, allowing the virus to reach many communities. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has appealed for a ceasefire so that health workers can reach safely.
Cases have also been reported in Uganda in border areas and Kampala. In 2025, the outbreak of the Sudan variant was controlled, but the new threat is from Bundibugyo. The Health Ministry has intensified contact tracing and awareness campaigns.
