US Iran War: The clouds of war have once again deepened in West Asia. There are only a few hours left for the ongoing ceasefire between America and Iran to end. Amid fears of the ceasefire collapsing, Pakistan, playing the role of mediator, has made a ‘last diplomatic move’ to save the negotiating table.
Pakistan’s last attempt for ceasefire
Pakistan, which has been playing the role of mediator to resolve this crisis for a long time, is now under a lot of pressure. Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has formally requested America and Iran to extend the ongoing ceasefire between the two countries for another 14 days. Pakistan says that diplomacy and negotiations should be given another chance, so that the region can be saved from the tragedy of a major war. This is said to be the last attempt by Pakistan to prove its mediation successful.
Are the delegations really reaching Pakistan?
Let us tell you that suspense remains on the talks to be held in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. For the last two days, there has been talk in the political circles that a high-level delegation led by Vice President JD Vance from America is reaching Pakistan. However, there is no official confirmation on this yet. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar says that he is waiting for confirmation from Iran about joining the talks. This uncertainty has raised concerns globally as to whether these talks will actually take place or not.
‘Talks will not take place under the shadow of threats’: Tehran
Iran has kept its stance very strict amid this diplomatic stir. According to Iran’s state media, no official or unofficial delegation has reached Islamabad so far. Tehran has made it clear that it is not ready to negotiate in an environment of threats. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has bluntly said that talks will move forward only when America changes its attitude. Iran alleges that America is trying to turn the negotiation table into a table of ‘surrender’.
Will Trump agree?
US President Donald Trump has taken a very tough stance in this matter. Talking to Bloomberg, Trump has made it clear that the ceasefire deadline is applicable only till 8 pm on Wednesday night as per American time. Trump has remained silent on the possibility of taking it further, on the contrary he has threatened that if an agreement is not reached, ‘weapons will speak their own language’. Trump has already warned of targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and power plants, which he has named ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’.
The situation is that America and Iran will have to reach a concrete decision by Thursday morning. On one side is Trump’s ultimatum and on the other side is Iran’s preparations for war. Whether Pakistan’s demand for extension of 14 days will really bear fruit, or whether the Gulf region will be engulfed in a fierce war, will be decided in the coming hours.
