Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran is fighting for his life in a hospital in Delhi. 6 feet 2 inches tall Shapoor is admitted in ICU. He is suffering from a rare and fatal disease called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, in which the immune system weakens. The condition of the Afghan player is very serious. The infection reached his brain. Apart from this, weight is decreasing rapidly and conversation has also almost stopped.
Shapoor came to Delhi in January for treatment. Now he is struggling with the fourth stage of HLH. He had problems for the first time in October last year. Shapoor’s younger brother Ghamai Zadran told that only after this the doctors in Afghanistan advised him to go to India for treatment.
The infection spread to the brain
According to ESPNcricinfo, Ghamai Zadran told that Shapoor’s infection had spread to the brain, which was detected after MRI and CT scan. TB was also included in this.

Shapoor underwent a ‘bone marrow’ test in the month of Ramadan, after which it was revealed that he had reached the fourth stage of HLH.
Weight started decreasing, conversation also stopped
Shapoor’s brother told that now there is not much life left in him. His weight has decreased by about 14 kg. He can hardly say anything. The conversation has almost stopped.
Condition improves with steroids
Shapoor Zadran is the eldest in the family – he has four brothers and six sisters – and has been the head of the family for a long time, his brother said. We hope that his condition will improve day by day. The steroids recently given to Shapoor seem to be effective and this has given us hope.
