Despite Donald Trump’s threat, Tehran showed no signs of backing down on Sunday morning. It responded to Trump’s ultimatum by threatening retaliation of its own, and vowed that if its power plants were attacked, it would attack US and Israeli infrastructure in the region.
“If Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked, the fuel, energy, information technology systems and desalination infrastructure used by the United States and that regime in the region will be attacked,” Colonel Ibrahim Zolfaghri, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia military command headquarters, warned on Sunday, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
Trump had given this warning to Iran through a post on the Truth Social platform. In it he wrote, “If Iran, within exactly 48 hours from now, without any further threats, does not completely open the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will attack their various power plants and completely destroy them.” Trump said that it will start with the largest plant.
