Instead of stopping, the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran is becoming more severe. Meanwhile, Israel is claiming to have killed another top commander of Iran. An Israeli official has been quoted as saying that the commander of the IRGC’s naval branch has been killed in an IDF attack. However, there has been no comment yet from Iran or the Israeli army on this attack.
An Israeli official told The Times of Israel that Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval commander Alireza Tangsiri was killed in an attack in Bandar Abbas. According to a report, Tangsiri played an important role in closing the Strait of Hormuz. However, an official statement on this has not yet come from the armies of both the countries.
Claim of death of Iranian Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri
If the death of Naval Commander Alireza Tangsiri is officially confirmed, it will be the death of Iran’s fourth major commander. Tangsiri was one of the few big names who had so far escaped the US-Israeli attacks. As an experienced commander posted in the post since 2018, he played a key role in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran.
Tangsiri, who commanded the naval division of Iran’s influential Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was in charge of managing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He hailed from Bushehr province in southern Iran and held senior positions in the IRGC Navy after serving in the Iran–Iraq War and the so-called ‘tanker wars’. These wars marked the United States’ initial confrontation with Iran in the 1980s.
Tangsiri then took command of the 1st Naval District of the IRGC Navy in Bandar Abbas and held the rank of vice-commander from 2010 to 2018, after which he became the chief of staff of the force. Tangsiri’s reported death adds another name to the growing number of high-ranking Iranian officials killed since the conflict began on February 28. After Iran’s major setback, this war may take a more severe form in the future.
