Strait of Hormuz: Amidst the long-running tension and war, there has finally been a sigh of relief. A historic peace agreement has been reached between America and Iran. Along with this, the Strait of Hormuz is also opening. Giving great news, US President Donald Trump has said that many ships loaded with oil have started coming out of the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump gave this information through a post on the social media platform Truth Social. He told that many ships laden with oil are leaving the Strait of Hormuz. These ships are going through the ‘Southern Highway’ in the maritime area of Oman. He has described this route as safe and excellent.
The months-long bitter dispute, blockade and war not only destabilized the Middle East but also endangered the energy security of the entire world. The Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes, was almost closed due to the war. Due to this, oil prices were skyrocketing and many countries were facing fuel crisis. Now this deal seems to avert that entire danger.
US Vice President JD Vance said that the agreement has already been finalized digitally. The formal signing will take place in Switzerland on June 19 (Friday).
Trump clarified that the main objective of the deal is to ensure permanent peace, security and uninterrupted oil supply in the region. Positive signals have also come from Iran.
Will Iran collect toll from ships passing through Hormuz?
Iran has made its stance clear regarding fees on the Hormuz waterway. On its part it has been said that it will not collect toll tax directly from the ships passing through this waterway. Instead, he will charge a fee for the service provided to the ships. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that this fee will be taken to show safe passage to the ships. It will also be taken for environmental protection, insurance and other important marine services. He also said that Iran has always been against imposing transit tolls.
Although some precautions are being taken till the official signature, but after Trump’s announcement, the movement of ships in Hormuz started in itself is a big relief. Global markets are already reacting positively – oil prices have fallen and stock markets are rising.
This agreement will not only restore oil supply but will also give new hope for peace in the entire Middle East.
