Making a big claim amid increasing tension in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (March 11) indicated that America has eliminated almost all possible targets in Iran.
He suggested an early end to the fighting amid growing global concerns over rising energy prices and shipping blockage in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a five-minute phone interview with Axios, Trump said the Iran war would end “soon” because there is “practically nothing left to target” in the country. He added, “Little by little… whenever I want it to end, it will end.”
Despite Trump’s claim that US military targets in Iran have been largely achieved. There is no sign of enmity subsiding in the area. Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the joint strikes with the US would continue indefinitely, and stressed that the strikes would continue “as long as necessary” to achieve their ultimate objective.
Katz said attacks in Tehran and across the country would continue every day, hitting target after target. He further said that the attacks would continue to give Iranians an opportunity to rise up, take action, and remove Khamenei’s regime. “Ultimately, it’s up to them,” Katz said.
President Trump has given contradictory updates about the timeline of the fight. While he assured the public that the war was a “short-term journey” that was nearing its end, he also said that the US had “not won enough” to declare victory.
Additionally, he issued a stern warning to Tehran, vowing to respond “twenty times” if there were any attempts to block the vital energy corridor. “This operation will continue as long as necessary, without any time limit, until we achieve all objectives and determine the outcome of the campaign,” the news agency quoted him as saying.
