According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a massive 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines at 7:42 pm (local time) on Friday.
This earthquake occurred near the Mindanao islands at a depth of 65.7 kilometers. The incident comes just three weeks after another massive earthquake struck the same area, killing more than 80 people.
In the last earthquake that hit the area earlier this week, a building housing a Jollibee fast food restaurant collapsed onto the street. A shocking video showed how the colorful and vibrant building turned into a pile of debris in a matter of seconds.
More than 500 people died in Venezuela
This latest earthquake in the Philippines comes after earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes occurred just seconds apart in northern Venezuela on Wednesday. At least 500 people died and thousands were injured or missing in these earthquakes.
Drone video taken from one of the worst-hit areas shows collapsed residential buildings, dilapidated roads, ruined infrastructure and widespread devastation, painting a horrifying picture of the devastation caused by successive earthquakes. In the video, rescue workers and locals are seen digging through the concrete debris, while heavy machines try to remove debris from the razed buildings.
