Bangladesh news: Political turmoil and instability in Bangladesh is not stopping. A massive bomb blast took place in a large rally of students protesting against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Savar area near the capital Dhaka. At least three people have been seriously injured in this bomb blast, who have been immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The attack took place at around 9:45 pm on Monday (July 6) at Idgah ground near Savar police station stand. The ‘July March’ was being taken out by the newly formed political party ‘National Citizen Party’ (NCP). It is being told that after the end of NCP’s march, a public meeting was going on there. When Dhaka District NCP convenor Nabila Tasneed was giving a speech from the stage, at that very moment a massive explosion occurred at the rally venue.
At the time when the blast took place, many prominent student leaders including party convenor Naheed Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hussain and northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam were present on the stage. There was a stampede in the rally after the blast. The injured have been identified as Mohammad Shaheen Khandakar (30), Mohammad Jasim (26) and Mohammad Shahadat Hussain (40).
Demonstration was being held on the second anniversary of ‘July Revolution’
On the occasion of the second anniversary of the student movement (July Revolution) against the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh, NCP had organized the program on the first day of the nationwide ‘July March’. Through this march, many demands were raised by student organizations like implementing referendum, creating new jobs, finding a permanent solution to the ongoing electricity crisis, controlling rising inflation and prices of goods.
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is present in India after leaving the country on 5 August 2024. A formal demand has been made for his extradition.
On this, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had already clarified that the Government of India is officially reviewing this formal courier/request of Bangladesh through established legal and judicial processes. India’s main focus at this time is to stabilize its strategic relations with the new government formed in Dhaka and ensure restoration of peace in the neighboring country.
