After this incident, West Indies Cricket shared official information and said that the match was canceled due to the dangerous pitch. The board said in its statement, “Due to the dangerous condition of the pitch at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium, the second match of the Leeward Islands vs Trinidad and Tobago bilateral series in the 2026 West Indies Championship has been declared a draw and canceled.”

It was further written, “Play was stopped in the first session of the third day due to unexpected and uneven pitch conditions, which raised serious concerns about the safety of the players. Meanwhile, Leeward Islands player Jeremiah Lewis was injured while batting. He was immediately given medical help and taken to the hospital to be examined for a possible head injury. His condition is said to be stable.”
