President Donald Trump said “something big could happen” in Pakistan in the next two days as the US and Iran try to get back to the negotiating table.

“You should stay put, really, because something could happen in the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump told a reporter covering Islamabad. He said, “It is more likely, do you know why? Because the Field Marshal is doing a very good job.”

praise munir again

Trump was referring to Pakistan’s Field Marshal General Asim Munir, describing him as “brilliant”. Geneva has also been suggested as a possible place for peace talks, but Trump did not pay much attention to this possibility. Trump said, “Why should we go to a country that has nothing to do with this issue?”

Ball in Iran’s court

US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that the US has made “considerable progress” in talks with Iran. He also said that “the ball is now in Iran’s court,” as mediators are reportedly trying to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table; This happened after Vance and the US team walked out of the summit meeting in Islamabad on Saturday.

In an interview with American media, Vance said he left the talks in Pakistan last weekend because “the Iranian team there was unable to reach an agreement. They had to go back to Tehran, either from the Supreme Leader or someone else, to approve the terms that we had negotiated.”

Vance, who led the US delegation, said during the interview, “The biggest question from now on is, will the Iranians be flexible enough? Will the Iranians accept the necessary things that we want to see, to get this done?” He further said, “It is imperative for us to take out the enriched material from Iran. We need a firm commitment from them that they will not develop any nuclear weapons.”

Appeal to include Lebanon in ceasefire deal

Foreign ministers of several European countries issued a joint statement today calling for Lebanon to be included in the process of reducing regional tensions.

These ministers, from Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, praised the ongoing talks between Lebanon and Israel and urged both sides to “urgently de-escalate”.

Condemning Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel, the ministers also condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon and humanitarian organizations in the region. “We express our full solidarity and unwavering support to the people of Lebanon and their authorities. We are fully prepared, in coordination with the Government of Lebanon, to provide emergency assistance to the more than one million people displaced in Lebanon,” the joint statement said.
