Rex Heuerman, the terrible serial killer in Long Island, New York, has been sentenced to several life sentences by the court. The judge in Suffolk County Court imposed three consecutive life sentences without parole and 25 years to life in prison for the four other murders, which will run one after the other.
As long as Rex Heuerman lives, he will never be able to come out of jail. His crime was so heinous that the judge had to say that even a punishment of one lakh years is less for it.
Serial killer Rex Heurman is an architect, that is, he used to design buildings. Most of the victims were sex workers. He strangled them to death and dumped their bodies in the Gilgo Beach area of Long Island.
8 guilty of murder
In April 2026, Heuermann pleaded guilty to seven murders. These include Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainerd-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla and Valerie Mack. He also confessed to the murder of an eighth victim, Karen Vergata, although he was not tried separately as part of the plea deal.
the suffering of families
When the court sentenced this beast, many victims’ family members were present. “A million years is too little of a sentence for her,” said Jasmine Robinson, Jessica Taylor’s cousin.
Melissa Barthelemy’s sister Amanda Funderburg, who was 15 at the time, said: “I hope you endure the pain.” Heuerman had called the family from his phone after the murder. Megan Waterman’s daughter Liliana, then 3 years old, said, “In an instant my whole world came crashing down.” And Judge Timothy Mazzei said of Hurman’s brutality:
“You are a disgusting and cowardly person.”
identified with pizza crust
Heuermann targeted sex workers for 17 years. He would strangle them to death and dump their bodies across the creek from his house. In 2010, several bodies were found during a search for a missing woman, leading to suspicions of a serial killer. The case was solved when police found his DNA on a pizza crust that he had thrown away.
letter from another serial killer
After his capture, Heuermann was kept in a separate cell for three years. There he read crime novels and allegedly sent letters to other serial killers. As part of the play deal, he is set to work with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit to help catch other serial killers in the future.
