Balen Shah Govt Education Reform: Balen Shah government of Nepal has prepared a 100-day action plan to distance the education system from politics. The objective of this scheme, which will be operated under the leadership of PM Balen Shah, is to make education sectors only centers of knowledge and to strengthen the education system as per international standards.

‘Educational institutions are not the arena of politics’

According to media reports, under this action plan, the activities of student organizations associated with political parties have been completely banned in all schools, colleges and universities of Nepal. Also, these organizations have been instructed to remove their offices and other structures from the educational campuses. In view of this action, the government says that now educational institutions will not be the arena of politics but will only become centers of education.

‘Student Council’ instead of politics

The government believes that non-political mechanisms like ‘Student Council’ or ‘Voice of Students’ will be developed within the next 90 days to listen to the real problems of the students instead of politics. The objective of which will be to raise the voice of the students and protect their interests.

Not only this, the government has taken another big decision and has now abolished the requirement of Nepali citizenship for pursuing graduation, so that no student’s studies will be stopped due to lack of documents. Apart from this, the government has ensured that the examination results of universities will now be published on time as per the calendar set by the ministry.

Prime Minister Balen Shah has also stressed on educational institutions having foreign names to change their names to ‘original Nepali names’. It is being told that this step has been taken to nationalize education and promote local identity.

Also, traditional examinations for children till class 5 have been abolished and the progress of children will be assessed through ‘Alternative Assessment System’.

End of syndicates and political interference

The Ballen government has blamed political interference for delaying exam results at universities and distorting the academic calendar. Therefore, now instructions have been given to publish all the results on time as per the calendar set by the Ministry.
