Serious allegations have been proven against an American Federal Judge. Investigation revealed that he had sexual relations with a police officer in his chamber and lied about it. The allegations against the judge have been proved.
This entire matter is of America’s Atlanta Federal Court. There was a long-standing relationship between a federal judge and a top police officer. Both the judge and the police officer are already married. The judge had an illicit relationship with a high ranking police officer for almost 2 years.
The female judge several times had sexual relations in her chamber during working hours. His staff heard kissing and moaning sounds. All this happened within hearing distance of his employees.
When the investigation was initially conducted, the judge denied these allegations. He made the opposite accusation against the clerk who made the complaint. Later, when evidence came to light, he accepted the affair. The Judicial Council of the 11th Circuit (Alabama, Georgia and Florida) and the Conduct Committee of the U.S. Judicial Conference confirmed the disciplinary action against this judge after investigating the complaint.
The Investigative Committee interrogated six former law clerks, checked documents, security footage and visitor logs. Even sound testing was conducted as per the layout of the chamber. The judge initially denied the allegations and called them baseless, but later began to speak the truth during the investigation.
According to the investigation report, the judge had sexual relations with a high ranking police officer for about two years. The court’s investigation committee has personally reprimanded him. He will have to give a written apology to his staff. She will have to stay away from some important posts like becoming the Chief Justice, but she will still remain a judge.
The committee did not give a harsher punishment because the judge later told the truth. He severed his ties with the police officer and promised to stay away from political events. Earlier his work record was good. This case raises questions about the accountability of federal judges in America. Judges are appointed for life, so it is very difficult to remove them.
