Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a new and strongly worded warning to the US. It threatened to retaliate against US naval assets, and indicated that if Washington took any new military action, it would be responded to throughout the region.
A senior political officer in the IRGC Navy said that if the US took another offensive step, Tehran would activate the broader “Resistance Front”, a network of pro-Iran groups in the Middle East. He emphasized that this poses a danger of increasing tension on many fronts.
“If Washington takes any aggressive action again, we will use the capabilities of the resistance front,” the official said.
‘Will burn his huge ships in the sea’
This warning became even more serious when U.S. naval forces were directly threatened. “If the US miscalculates again, we will burn its huge ships in the sea,” said the political deputy chief of staff of the IRGC navy. He also said any retaliation would use “shock measures and new capabilities.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Tehran’s recent proposal. He has indicated that Washington is unwilling to move forward unless the nuclear issue is resolved directly. He also claimed that Iran has sent the message that it is “on the verge of complete collapse”, and that it wants the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened “as soon as possible”.
