US President Donald Trump said he and Xi Jinping exchanged letters over reports that China was sending weapons to Iran, and the Chinese leader “actually” told him his country “is not doing that.”
When asked whether US actions in Iran and Venezuela, and comments made about Cuba, particularly regarding oil, would change the tone of the meeting between the two leaders next month, Trump said, “I don’t think that will happen.”
‘Just wrote a very nice letter to me’
“They need the oil. We don’t. He’s a guy I get along very well with. He just wrote me a very nice letter,” Trump said.
“They responded to a letter I wrote, because I heard that China was giving weapons. I mean, you see it everywhere, to Iran,” he added, adding, “I wrote them a letter asking them not to do that, and they wrote me a letter back saying actually they’re not doing that.”
Threat of 50 percent tariff was also given
US President Donald Trump gave a new warning to China on Sunday. He had said that if China was caught helping Iran amid the ongoing war, he would impose 50% tariff on this Asian country.
“If we catch them doing this, they’ll be hit with a 50% tariff, which is a huge amount… it’s a huge amount,” Trump told US media.
Let us tell you that the American media had told in its report that according to American intelligence agencies, China is preparing to provide new air defense systems (MANPADs) to Iran in the next few weeks. The network had reported that there are indications that Beijing is trying to send these consignments through third countries, so that their original source can be hidden. China had denied these allegations.
