
Donald Trump- PM Modi Bilateral meeting: A bilateral meeting took place today (June 17) in the French city of Evian on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was the first face-to-face meeting of the two leaders after 16 months. Important issues like West Asia crisis, trade, energy security and global stability were discussed. In the meeting, Trump clearly said that India is a reliable ally and is playing a big role in dealing with the West Asia crisis. 1. Talking about India-US defense relations, US President Donald Trump said that I think it is a very good relationship. If they are attacked, we will be there to help them. If someone attacks that guy, we will be there. If he is attacked and he (PM Modi) is the leader, we will be there to help.
2. PM Modi praised Donald Trump for his efforts for peace in West Asia during the meeting. He said that because of your efforts, a new ray of peace is visible in West Asia. The PM also said that it is important to keep Hormuz open for the global economy.
3. In the meeting, PM Modi also raised the issue of safety of Indian sailors. He said that we consider it important and I hope that the safety of sailors will definitely be given priority in the peace agreement with Iran.
4. In the bilateral meeting, US President Donald Trump praised PM Modi and mentioned his good relations with him. He said that PM Modi looks calm but is very strict in talks.
5. Trump was asked if he expected India to play a role in West Asia, to which he said, “Yes, I hope so. I think India plays a big role in everything. As long as he (PM Narendra Modi) is the leader, India will continue to play a big role.”
6. Trump also said that as long as I am the President, he (India) has a very good friend in the White House… Everyone here likes India and they respect this person (PM Narendra Modi) very much.
7. Interim trade deal between the countries was discussed between India and America. The focus was on market access, tariffs and investment promotion.
8. When President Trump was asked about the proposed India-US trade agreement, he said that we are very close to the deal. He has given this statement at a time when talks have intensified between New Delhi and Washington to complete a bilateral trade agreement.
9. Trump recalled his visit to India and said that my last visit to India was very wonderful. We inaugurated that new stadium. I think there were 3000-4000 people there, but there was seating for about 150,000 people, and 250,000 people were outside, and 100,000 people were sitting on the grass. I don’t know if those records have been broken or not, but I had a great time in India.
10. Trump also talked about visiting India soon. He said that he would visit India soon.
