Iran is holding a several-day funeral for its slain leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that any Iranian leader who tries to pursue a plan to destroy Israel will meet the same fate as Khamenei.
According to a spokesman on Monday, Katz said, “Ayatollah Khamenei, whose funeral is now taking place, was eliminated by Israel because he initiated and led the plan to destroy Israel in Iran and throughout the region.”
He further said that the US and Israeli attacks on Iran eliminated the immediate existential threats facing Israel and caused significant damage to Iran’s strategic capabilities.”
He also strongly criticized those who chanted “Death to Trump” during the funeral. He described them as shameful and said they exposed the true nature of the Ayatollah regime.
Coffins passing through the packed streets of Tehran
Today, during the public funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a hearse carrying several coffins decorated with Iranian flags passed through the streets of Tehran, drawing a huge crowd.
Later this week, marches are expected in the Iranian city of Qom and Iraq. After this, Khamenei will be buried in the city where he was born.
On February 28, when the US and Israel launched a war against Iran, Khamenei was killed in an airstrike. Since then his son and successor Mojtaba has not yet appeared in front of everyone.
