US President Donald Trump, in his press conference, threatened the media company which brought the information about the pilot’s disappearance to Iran. Trump gave a direct threat and said that he will send that leaker journalist to jail.
Trump said that someone had leaked information about the rescue of the first soldier even before the second soldier was brought to safety. He further said, “We are trying our best to find the person who leaked that information.” Trump said Iran did not know a second soldier was missing until the leaker shared the information.
Talking about the Iranians, he said, “Suddenly they became aware that someone else was there. They saw many planes coming there. This operation became even more difficult because someone had leaked the information that we had a soldier. We have saved one, but there is another soldier also there, whom we are trying to save.”
‘We have to find the person who leaked that information’
Trump said, “So actually, the country of Iran issued a big notice. You all saw it, announcing that there would be a huge reward for whoever captured that pilot. So in addition to an adversary, a very capable, excellent and very evil military, there were also millions of people trying to get that reward. When you look at all of this together, it becomes clear that we have to find the leaker, because he is a sick person. He is a person with mentality.”
Talking about the identity of the leaker, Trump said, “We think we’ll find out. Because we’ll go to the media company that published this information, and we’ll say to them, ‘This is a matter of national security; either reveal the identity of that person, or get ready to go to jail.'”
Trump did not clarify which media company he was talking about. If a reporter refuses to reveal the identity of his sources and an attempt is made to send him to jail for this, it is almost certain that he will face immediate legal opposition.
