Khamenei died in Israeli attack
Iranian state media reported that Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in the initial phase of the attacks. US and Israeli officials said that these attacks were carried out on strategic military and security targets. This was confirmed hours after President Donald Trump announced the death of the religious leader, who was with the larger aim of changing the government. Reports also said that several of Khamenei’s relatives, including his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, were killed in the same attacks.
Attacks on Hezbollah begin in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces says it has begun attacking Hezbollah terror targets across Lebanon, but has not provided further details. It came as Israel began responding to Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel this morning, raising fears of rapid violence spreading across the Middle East.
The Lebanese government has tried to distance itself from Hezbollah, the powerful militant and political group supported by Iran. Earlier, the Israeli military had said that a precision strike killed the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters.
