The situation in the Middle East has once again become very tense. Now Saudi Arabia has entered the ongoing war between Iran and America. Saudi Arabia, along with the US, has carried out air strikes on Iraq. There are reports of 20 people being killed in these attacks while more than 30 people are said to be injured. Logistics and weapons bases have been targeted in the joint action between America and Saudi Arabia.
Suddenly the sky echoed with loud explosions in the desert areas of Iraq. The joint air forces of America and Saudi Arabia carried out precise attacks on targets associated with Iran. At least 20 people were killed and 32 injured in these attacks. The attacks targeted logistics supplies and weapons warehouses that were under the control of Iran-backed militia groups.
America confirmed the attacks
US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed the strikes, saying they were “against Iranian-linked terrorists who were directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure”.
20 people died and more than 30 injured
Iraq’s paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) – dominated by Iran-backed Shia militias – said at least 20 of its members were killed in US-Saudi attacks on its positions. As soon as the news of the attacks spread, there was panic in Baghdad. Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi immediately called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council.
Where did the attack take place?
There is anger across the country towards America and Saudi over this attack on Iraq. The PMF issued an official statement on Telegram confirming that 20 people were killed in the attack. And 32 are injured. The attacks took place in seven provinces, including Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala and Diyala.
Action in response to Iran’s attack
US Central Command (CENTCOM) and Saudi Arabia’s military said that this action was taken in response to Iran-backed attacks that have continued over the past several days. According to him, groups acting on the instructions of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had repeatedly launched drone attacks on US troops and Saudi oil plants.
Between February and April this year, Iran-backed groups tried to carry out more than 600 attacks on American targets. America warned that if IRGC and its allies do not stop the attacks, further strict action may be taken. Iran’s counter-attack
IRGC retaliated
Iran retaliated just hours after the attacks. The IRGC’s Aerospace Force claimed that it targeted a US air base and CENTCOM headquarters in Jordan with ballistic missiles. “Our resistance will continue until the US stops its threats and illegal interference.”
