According to foreign media reports, the aircraft was of Gulfstream G200 model, whose American registration was N318JF. It was going from La Romana to Austin, Texas. Shortly after takeoff, the plane developed a technical fault, due to which the pilot declared an emergency.
The pilot decided to divert back to La Romana Airport. Returning from about 16 nautical miles away, an attempt was made to land, but at the last moment the aircraft went out of control. The plane caught fire as it fell on the runway. Local authorities and the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) confirmed that both the pilot and co-pilot died in the accident. There were no passengers on the plane. The rescue team reached the spot, but both the crew members could not be saved.
It is not yet clear what was the real reason for the technical fault. There is a possibility that there was a problem with the engine. Officials have said that a full investigation will be conducted, which will include information about the black box, the location of the plane and its last moments. This accident has become a matter of concern. Questions are also being raised regarding the safety of private jets.
