PM Modi-Trump Bilateral Meeting: On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, a very important bilateral meeting took place between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit held in Evian, France.
In this meeting which started at around 7.30 pm, there was a very serious discussion between the two leaders regarding the strategic and defense relations between India and America. During this, US President Trump made such a historic and big promise regarding the security of PM Modi and India.
America will stand with India
Speaking openly on the strengthening defense relations between India and America, President Donald Trump praised the leadership of PM Modi. He said that this is a very wonderful and strong relationship between India and America. If there is ever any external attack on India while Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister, America will come forward with full force to help India and will stand with it.
America’s commitment to PM Narendra Modi
President Trump said in his statement that even if there is no prior written defense agreement between the two countries regarding such assistance, America will still play its role. However, Trump also said that if any other leader becomes the Prime Minister in place of Narendra Modi in India, then he cannot say anything definitely about American help in such a situation.
There was also discussion on the Strait of Hormuz and the safety of Indian sailors.
During the joint press conference held after this bilateral meeting, both the global leaders also expressed their views on the current situation in West Asia and sensitive issues related to maritime security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of security of lakhs of Indian sailors deployed mainly in the Strait of Hormuz very prominently in the meeting.
On this Trump said that he has heard about this and it is indeed a very difficult profession. He assured that the American administration is looking at the seriousness of this entire matter.
Expectations from peace agreement in West Asia
Prime Minister Modi appreciated the peace accord steps taken by President Trump to establish lasting peace and stability in West Asia. PM Modi expressed hope that when this proposed peace agreement between America and Iran is finalized, then the standards of safety of sailors in international waters will be given top priority in it.
