US Secretary of State Marco Rubio downplayed the direct impact of the Iran war on rising gas prices. Let us tell you that American people are now paying 50% more money at the pump than before the war started.
“Obviously, it’s driven by global events. The same was true during the Russia-Ukraine war,” Rubio told reporters during a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday afternoon.
Now that the average price of gas across the US is $4.50 a gallon, Rubio said other parts of the world are “really struggling” and the US is “safer than other countries.”
‘If Iran had nuclear weapons…’
He further argued that Iran should not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, as this threat could cause gas prices to rise even higher.
He said, “If Iran had nuclear weapons and they [होर्मुज जलडमरूमध्य] If they decided to shut down the U.S. and send our gas prices up to $9 or $8 a gallon, we wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, because they have nuclear weapons.”
‘They don’t care about this…’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Tehran’s ability to withstand the current US pressure campaign against Iran is due to the fact that “they don’t care that their people are suffering.”
When asked by a reporter what he thought would bring Iran to the negotiating table and cause Tehran to apparently abandon its nuclear ambitions, Rubio said, “Look, their economy is taking a huge hit. You’re right, it’s not that they can handle the pressure; it’s that they don’t care that their people are suffering. You understand, right?”
“There’s a difference between ‘we can handle the pressure’ and ‘we don’t really care,'” Rubio said.
