India had to face a big defeat of 76 runs in its first match of Super-8 of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Indian batsmen flopped badly in this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. South Africa had scored 187 runs after playing first. In reply, Team India collapsed for only 111 runs. After this defeat of India, former captain Sunil Gavaskar looked very angry. He told the biggest mistake of Team India and also gave advice to the Indian team.
After India’s defeat, Sunil Gavaskar told Geostar, “The Indian batsmen needed to learn from the partnership of Dewald Brevis and David Miller and adopt this kind of thinking. The Indian batsmen did not do this. They came out with overconfidence. They batted on every ball and lost wickets. South Africa proved to be better than India in every department of the game.”
Sunil Gavaskar told the biggest mistake of Team India
Let us tell you that South Africa did not have a good start in the match. At one time its score was 20 runs for three wickets, but after this Miller and Brewis made a partnership of 97 runs, due to which South Africa was successful in scoring 187 runs for seven wickets. In response, the Indian team was out for 111 runs in 18.5 overs.
Gavaskar said, “India did not take any lessons from South Africa. Indian batsmen came to the crease and were trying to take every ball outside the boundary line. T20 cricket is not played like this.”
He further said, “You should have learned from the opposition team. If they have scored well on such a difficult pitch, then you should have left your ego and analyzed their innings and batted as per the conditions.”
