First responders rushed to an airport runway in Atlanta on Tuesday after a plane made a dangerous landing error. As the plane descended, all eight of its landing tires burst.
LATAM Flight 2482, a Boeing 767, landed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday evening after a seven-hour flight from Lima, Peru.
According to the report, this unusual incident was probably not the result of a hard landing, but may have been caused by a possible malfunction in the plane’s automatic braking system.
Cabin panels were uprooted and bathroom door broken from hinges.
According to the local station, photos taken after the incident showed cabin panels uprooted and the bathroom door torn off its hinges. There were no reports of injuries following the incident, but airport staff who witnessed the landing reported hearing several popping sounds and smoke as the wheels hit the tarmac.
“I was at work and my coworkers and I heard some loud bangs and saw a lot of smoke. An airport operations guy said the plane landed with so much force that all the tires blew out,” one user posted on social media on Tuesday.
According to US media, another passenger reported feeling a strange sensation of the wheels rattling “on the tarmac for an unusually long period of time” as the plane slowed down.
Passengers stuck on the runway for two hours
According to reports, the 221 people on board the plane were stranded on the runway for two hours before being taken to the terminal by bus. Due to this incident, the runway had to be closed for some time, but it did not have much impact on the overall functioning of the airport.
