Earthquake tremors were once again felt in India’s neighboring country Afghanistan. The earth shook due to the strong tremors of the earthquake. Frightened people came out of their homes. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake’s intensity was recorded at 5.3 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hit Afghanistan on Friday. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of just 10 km from the ground, increasing the possibility of aftershocks. However, at present there is no information about the loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
People are in panic due to repeated earthquake tremors in Afghanistan. Earlier on December 15 also, earthquake tremors were felt in the Hindu Kush region, the depth of which was 22 km. Shallow-depth earthquakes are generally more dangerous than deeper earthquakes because the seismic waves emanating from shallow earthquakes have to travel less distance to reach the surface. This can cause major damage to buildings and people can also become casualties.
Why does earthquake occur again and again in Hindu Kush region?
The Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan is located in a highly active seismic zone. This is the reason why earthquake tremors are felt here again and again. On November 4, a powerful earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred in northern Afghanistan. At least 27 people were killed and hundreds were injured in that earthquake. Earlier on December 15, another earthquake of 4.0 magnitude had occurred in the same area at a depth of 22 km.
