US President Donald Trump dismissed questions related to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to the sale of F-35 jets to Turkey. On Monday he said that only he takes the decision about selling, no one else.
Trump indicated earlier this month that he was considering allowing Turkey to sell fighter jets. However, due to Türkiye having air defense systems made in Russia, doing so is currently prohibited under US law.
“He’s my friend and nobody tells me what we should sell him,” Trump said of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He also said that Türkiye has been a very good ally.
Trump admitted that Türkiye is not a big supporter of Israel. Trump, who is expected to meet Netanyahu in Washington this week, said the two have largely similar views on Iran, but there are some differences. “We have some differences, but we’re pretty much on the same page,” Trump said.
US President Donald Trump acknowledged that the US may need more modern weapons as its stockpile dwindles in the conflict with Iran, but he insisted that the military has what it needs to fight the war.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Monday, Trump said, “We are in a very good position. But in terms of some of the more advanced weapons, we would certainly like more weapons.”
