US Iran meeting: America and Iran are trying to settle the issues related to the agreement on the negotiating table. In this series, a round of important indirect talks took place between the two countries in Doha, the capital of Qatar. During these two days of talks, no permanent agreement could be reached between them. However, there have been positive discussions on the 14-point agreement.
In the meeting between the two countries, issues ranging from movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz to Iran’s freeze fund and normalization of the situation were discussed. The important issue of conversation remained Hormuz.
During this time, Iran continued to insist that it should be considered under control over the Strait of Hormuz. He talked about deciding the route of movement of ships and also taking decisions about stopping ships in case of danger. Not only this, Iran also talked about imposing fees on merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. It said it could charge fees for passage through Hormuz from mid-August.
However, America was not ready to accept these conditions. America opposed these demands. Officials described the Strait of Hormuz as an international sea route and said that ships of all countries should have freedom of movement here without any hindrance. No one country has the right to collect toll or stop ships here.
During the talks, America talked about creating an alternative sea route near Oman and using the ships if needed. However, this proposal was rejected outright by Iran.
Agreed to release part of frozen property
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, who participated in the talks on behalf of Iran, said that progress was made on many issues in the meeting. It has been agreed to release some part of Iran’s frozen assets worth about $6 billion. Iran will use this amount to buy the goods it needs.
At present, America and Iran have decided to carry forward the talks. The next meeting between the two will take place after the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
