In Aceh province of Indonesia, a couple was given a cruel punishment of caning in front of everyone for kissing each other without marriage. The couple was caught kissing in a car in February while livestreaming it on social media platform TikTok.
A 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were beaten with canes 21 times in Bustansalatin City Park in Banda Aceh. About 100 people witnessed this cruel punishment. According to the report, some people demanded that the couple be caned more severely.

The couple was arrested in April after their TikTok livestream went viral on social media. Due to this video, people had filed a complaint against him with the Sharia authorities. “They have clearly violated Islamic Sharia,” police said.
It is noteworthy that Aceh is the only province in Indonesia where Sharia law is implemented and punishment is given for gambling, rape, sexual harassment, some types of intimate relations outside marriage, some homosexual acts and acts like drinking, making and selling alcohol.
According to reports, the couple was arrested and kept in jail for 4 months. After this, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 25 lashes each. However, both had already spent 4 months in jail, so the couple’s sentence was reduced from 25 lashes to 21 lashes.
Apart from this, the court also confiscated the mobile and USB drive in which the video was present. Orders were also given to destroy that evidence.
