Tension has increased again between America and Iran. Both countries are targeting each other. On Friday, Iran attacked a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In response, within 24 hours the US Army launched rapid attacks targeting Iran’s drone-missile bases. The situation has worsened after these latest attacks. Both countries are accusing each other of violating the ceasefire. Tehran has warned of a strong counterattack in response to the US attacks.
The spark of war is once again flaring between America and Iran. The US military has carried out airstrikes targeting drone-missile sites inside Iran. On behalf of the US Army, it was said that this attack is a revenge for the attack on the cargo ship in Hormuz. President Trump had claimed that Iran attacked commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz with at least four one-way attack drones, which he called a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement. Trump had also threatened to retaliate.
US Army fired missile at Iran
US Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the attack on Iran. He wrote in his US aircraft targeted Iran’s missile, drone storage and coastal radar sites.
Iran raised questions regarding ceasefire
Condemning the US strikes, Iranian lawmaker and Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ebrahim Azizi tweeted, “The US once again attacked Iran amid negotiations… This reckless violation of the ceasefire, as always, will cause them to backtrack and regret.”
Trump had threatened to retaliate
“I don’t like the fact that they attacked yesterday, actually four attacks,” Trump said at the White House just before the retaliation began. When asked about whether the military would respond, despite repeatedly saying talks with Tehran were going well, Trump said of Iran, “They’re a little different.” After this he abruptly ended the conversation and the journalists were sent out of his office.
Earlier on Thursday, the British Army reported that a container ship off the coast of Oman was attacked by a projectile (missile or rocket-like weapon). The attack came just hours after Iran warned ships not to use this route. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center announced that there were no injuries. This is a very delicate time for Washington and Tehran as they try to negotiate a permanent end to the war. Despite the interim deal reached with the US last week, Iran has repeatedly asserted its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
