US Iran Deal: Amidst the 4-month-long conflict in the Middle East, talks have been made on a peace agreement between America and Iran. Regarding the deal, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance are claiming that their interim agreement will bring huge economic benefits to American farmers, while Iran is denying this.
In fact, according to the agreement, there is also a provision to unfreeze Iran’s frozen assets worth several billion dollars. The Trump administration says that this money will be used to buy grain, soybeans, wheat and other agricultural products from American farmers, which are essential for Iran in the form of food and medicines.
Trump had written on his Truth social platform that the US Treasury Department will keep Iranian assets in an escrow account, over which the US will have complete control. This money will be used only in purchasing food items and medical supplies from America.
US Vice President JD Vance said that a large part of the funds received under the proposed policy of releasing Iranian assets will go directly back into the US market. After the sanctions are lifted, Iran will not be able to spend that amount anywhere as per its wish, rather it will be forced to buy mainly American soybean, corn and wheat. According to Vance, this fund will not be used in any military or controversial activity, but will be a completely safe and dual benefit arrangement.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai clearly said that any purchases of agricultural products would be based on “prices and quality” and not on terms set by Washington. Ali Bahreni, Iran’s ambassador to Geneva, said, “Iran will decide how to use its unfrozen assets. The US or Qatar have no role in this.”
The Iranian side says that the purpose of the war was to destroy Iranian civilization, but now it has become a means of making American farmers rich. According to Iran, the unfreezed funds can be used for a wide variety of imports, not just limited to US products.
