US Central Command has informed in a post on social media that the US Army conducted an airstrike in north-western Syria last week, in which a senior leader of the Islamic State was killed.
A statement released on Friday said the strike on Friday was part of “ongoing US efforts to deter and eliminate terrorists attempting to attack Americans overseas or on US soil”, and that Ali Hussein al-Ulawi was killed.

CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said, “CENTCOM and our allies are committed to completely defeating ISIS and destroying its remaining networks. “We will continue to defend U.S. soil, our troops, and our allies and partners in the region.”
Islamic State has launched a new round of operations in Syria against the government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa and has launched a series of attacks since February. Last year, Shaara’s government joined the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State. On Saturday, the extremist group claimed responsibility for an attack near the city of Mambij in Syria’s north-eastern Aleppo province.
