What changed in India-America relations?
Relations between India and America have strengthened in the last few years. Trade between the two countries has increased, defense partnership has deepened and cooperation on forums like Quad has also increased.
There were ups and downs in relations regarding tariffs.
At present, there is a situation of tension between India and America due to tariffs and attacks on sea vessels. The two countries are witnessing a serious diplomatic confrontation over trade disputes and the deaths of Indian sailors. India-US relations have been volatile and strategically balanced in recent times over tariffs and trade policies. Both countries have kept their strategic partnership strong despite trade tensions and tariff disputes.
India expressed protest over the death of innocent Indians
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) targeted these ships because they believed that these ships were attempting to violate the Iranian blockade by visiting Iranian ports and transporting oil. At the same time, US President Donald Trump indirectly blamed Iran for these attacks. India has registered its strong protest against these military attacks. The US diplomat (Chargé-d’Affaires) in New Delhi was summoned and demanded to stop these actions that jeopardize the safety of innocent Indian citizens.
This visit is also important for Indians because India is emerging as the voice of the Global South in the G7. PM Modi will give prominence to the issues of developing countries in the conference.
