When it comes to cricket, the discussion is often about big batsmen and their runs. But there is another aspect of this game which gave real identity to cricket, and that is bowling. In the history of first class cricket, there were some bowlers who, with their art, patience and consistent performance, created such records which are considered very difficult to break even today.
wilfred rhodes
The name of Wilfred Rhodes comes at the top of this list. He played first class cricket between 1898 and 1930 and took 4204 wickets in 1110 matches in his long career. This figure is still the biggest bowling record in first class cricket. Rhodes bowled 1,85,742 balls and took wickets at an average of only 16.72. Even after almost nine decades have passed, no bowler has been able to come close to his record.

CWL Parker
CWL Parker is at number three. He took 3278 wickets in 635 first class matches. His spin bowling was considered a big challenge for the batsmen. Parker single-handedly changed the course of the match many times.
JT Hearn
The fourth name in this list is that of JT Hearn. He has 3061 wickets in his name in 639 matches. His impressive average of 17.75 shows that he was not only a wicket-taking bowler but was also very economical.
TWJ Goddard
TWJ Goddard is in fifth place. He took 2979 wickets in 593 matches. Goddard, who took three thousand wickets, was counted among the most reliable bowlers of that era.
The story of these great bowlers is not limited to statistics alone. This is the story of that era when patience, hard work and skill were the biggest strengths in cricket. These players bowled millions of balls, struggled on the field for years and made such records which still surprise cricket lovers.
Today’s cricket may have become fast and modern, but the legacy of these great bowlers of first class cricket is still as strong. Especially Wilfred Rhodes’ record of 4204 wickets, which stands firm even after almost 90 years and will probably remain the highest bowling peak in cricket history for many years to come.
