The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has confirmed that an Indian citizen was killed when Iranian drones and missiles attacked Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday.
The attack, which was part of a larger wave of Iranian retaliatory attacks in the Gulf region, targeted the airport’s Terminal 1 early Wednesday. This caused significant damage to the airport’s infrastructure, injured many people, and led to the grounding of all commercial flights.
Kuwaiti officials said incoming flights were diverted to other airports while emergency teams responded to the scene of the incident.
Indian Embassy issued statement
The Indian Embassy issued a statement expressing its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and said it was working with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all necessary assistance, including helping in repatriation of the body to India. The Embassy has appealed to the Indian community living in Kuwait to remain alert and follow local security advisories.
Kuwaiti officials described the attack as “criminal Iranian aggression”, which also hit other civilian sites, including diplomatic missions. One person has been confirmed dead and dozens have been injured in the attack, many of whom are undergoing emergency surgery.
Kuwait strongly condemned these attacks
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the region following US attacks on Iranian targets. Iran has claimed that the attacks on Kuwait were in response to Kuwait’s alleged support for US operations in the Gulf region. Kuwait has strongly condemned these attacks and is coordinating with international partners regarding its response.
The Government of India has advised its citizens living in Kuwait and neighboring countries to exercise caution, avoid non-essential travel to the affected areas and stay in touch with the embassy. Further information regarding the identity of the deceased Indian national is expected to be released once his family has been informed about the incident.
