Kyle Adler, resident of Denver city of America, was born in Chile. His real name was Marcos Antonio Navarrete. When he was just 9 months old, he was stolen and illegally adopted into the United States.
Now, after more than three decades, he has met his real mother, Ana Maria Navarrete. This meeting took place in Santiago, Chile in February 2026. This was a very emotional moment for both of them.
What happened?
Kyle’s real mother Maria was from a poor family. She used to work at a fish shop at night. They placed Kyle with a caregiver. One day the woman told that the child had been given to an American couple.
More than 20,000 children went missing
This incident occurred during the dictatorial regime of General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte (1973–1990). At that time thousands of children from poor and tribal families were stolen and sent abroad for illegal adoption. According to the Chilean government, more than 20,000 children disappeared in this manner.
How did Kyle know?
Growing up, Kyle wanted to know who his real mother was. In 2017 he contacted an organization called Nos Buscamos. DNA testing confirmed that Maria was his real mother.

In February 2026, Kyle went to Chile and met his mother on Valentine’s Day. The meeting of both was very emotional. The tears of both of them did not stop after meeting each other. “Now I feel like I’ve found my people. I’ve got the love of family again,” Kyle said.
Kyle accompanied his mother to the town where he was born. He saw the hospital, the old house and met his brothers and sisters. His mother now hopes that the family will be complete again.
The dark truth of the Pinochet era
During the military regime of General Augusto Pinochet, thousands of newborn babies from poor and indigenous families in Chile were stolen and sold abroad. According to the government and human rights organizations, more than 20,000 children became victims of this network. Poor mothers were often told their child had died, while they were illegally handed over to foreign couples.
