Diplomatic efforts to reduce the rising tensions in West Asia have reached a critical juncture. US President Donald Trump has declared that any potential deal with Iran would either have to be “great and meaningful”, or there would be no deal at all.
Along with this, he has also said that after the end of the war, Muslim countries should take forward the Abraham Accords and sign a peace agreement with Israel and recognize it.
The problem is that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan do not have any formal diplomatic relations with Israel. According to some reports, this demand of Trump has surprised these leaders.
Mandating the Abraham Accords
Trump said, “On Saturday, President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and Minister Ali al-Thawadi; Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah of Pakistan; President Recep Tayyip of Turkey. During my discussions with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Jordan and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, I said that after all the efforts made by the US to solve this very complex puzzle, it should be mandatory for all these countries to sign the Abraham Accords at the same time. Already a member!), Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain (which is already a member!), maybe one or two countries have a reason not to do so, and that will be accepted, but the majority of countries should be ready, willing, and able to make this deal with Iran even more of a historic event than it would normally be.”
A promised economic and social boom
Trump argued that joining these agreements serves the direct financial and strategic interests of the participating countries. He wrote, “The Abraham Accords have been a financial, economic and social boom for the countries involved (the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and Kazakhstan), even in this era of conflict and war; and the current members have never even suggested leaving it or taking a break from it. This is because the Abraham Accords have been very good for them, and will be even better for everyone, and 5,000 For the first time in years, it will bring true strength and peace to the Middle East. It will be a document that will be respected more than any other document ever signed before.’
Drawing a clear line for Saudi Arabia and Qatar
The US President explicitly demanded that Riyadh and Doha lead the next wave of signatures, and warned that refusing to join would be a sign of ‘bad faith’. He wrote, “This should start with Saudi Arabia and Qatar signing immediately, and everyone else should follow suit. If they do not do so, they should not be part of this deal, as it reflects their bad intentions. During conversations with several of the great leaders mentioned above, they said that as soon as our document is signed, they would be honored to see the Islamic Republic of Iran become part of the Abraham Accords. Wow! This is really something very special.” It will happen!”
Win a united and powerful Middle East
Concluding his remarks, Trump directed US envoys to begin the formal process of expanding the alliance, calling it an unprecedented moment in world history. It would be the most important deal that any of these great, but always-struggling nations will ever sign, he wrote. Nothing, in the past or in the future, will be able to match it. Therefore, I essentially request all countries to immediately sign the ‘Abraham Accords’; And if Iran also signs its agreement with me, it will be an honor for them too to be a part of this unmatched global alliance. The Middle East will be united, powerful, and economically stronger, perhaps more so than any other region in the world! With a copy of this ‘Truth’, I urge our representatives to initiate and successfully complete the process of including these countries in the already historic ‘Abraham Accords’. Thank you all for your attention to this matter!
Pakistan’s troubles increased?
In 2020, the Abraham Accords were signed during Trump’s first term. However, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had decided not to join this agreement.
In an interview, Imran Khan had said, “I have no second thoughts in my mind about recognizing Israel.” In another interview with a local TV channel, he was quoted as saying, “My conscience will never allow me to accept Israel, which is responsible for so many atrocities against the Palestinian people.”
Two months after the signing of the Abraham Accords, Imran Khan claimed that his administration was repeatedly pressured by the US and other countries to normalize relations with Israel. However, he said that he would not make any compromise with the “Zionists”, as he knew that any such move could provoke nationwide protests led by religious and fundamentalist groups.
