Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said, “An attempt was made to put full responsibility on Iran, as if Iran itself had attacked its neighbors.”

He further said, “In time of war, any coastal country that is under attack may restrict the movement of ships in its territorial waters for security purposes.” Nebenzia further compared Western countries to pirates, and criticized European countries that are supporting Ukraine’s attacks on Russian merchant vessels in the Black Sea.
During a meeting in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iran’s top diplomat that Moscow would do everything possible to help ensure peace in the Middle East.
According to Russian state media, Putin told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, “On our part, we will do everything that is beneficial to your interests and the interests of all peoples in the region, so that peace can be established as soon as possible.”
Putin said Russia hoped the Iranian people would withstand this “difficult period” and that peace would ultimately prevail, the state news agency reported.
