A spectacular evening suddenly turned into panic at one of Washington’s most prestigious events, where a shocking incident involving a shooter reportedly targeted the US President.
Meanwhile, a post by Nico Perino on X caught everyone’s attention. Along with a photo of the fancy menu, he asked, “What happened to the steak and lobster that was prepared for 2,600 people, but never served?”
This post quickly went viral. Till the time of writing the news, it got 15 lakh (1.5 million) views, 2.2 thousand comments, 2.6 thousand reshares and 14 thousand likes. Suddenly, social media was awash with discussion of that wonderful meal that remained uneaten, rather than political headlines.
After all, what was the reason for that question?
Dinner at the Washington Hilton had barely progressed beyond ‘spring pea and burrata salad’ when suddenly everything stopped. At around 8:30 pm, sounds like loud bangs started echoing near the ballroom. Initially I could not understand anything, then panic spread. The guests hid under the tables. The plates fell to the ground. As soon as the security personnel entered, the waiters stopped midway while serving the food.
US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were taken out under security cover. The Secret Service immediately took them to a safe place. Along with them, journalists, politicians and celebrities were also taken to safe places.
Five-star food left behind
This was no ordinary dinner; It was a grand banquet prepared for over 2,600 guests. The menu included:
- Starter: Spring Pea and Burrata Salad
- Main Course: ‘Prime Chateaubriand’ with Maine Lobster, ‘Whipped Potato Gratin’ and Roasted Vegetables
- Dessert: ‘Grand Opera Cake’ with Espresso Cream and Chocolate Ganache
The menu, created by Executive Soo Chef Hyun In Sun and Executive Chef Daniel Bennett, was set to be one of the highlights of the night. But most of the guests could not move beyond the starter.
shooter caught
Later that shooter was caught. Media reports have identified Cole Thomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. He is believed to have worked for a tuition company and described himself online as a mechanical engineer, game creator and teacher. He attended the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and was active in the university’s Christian community.
What did Internet users guess about Steak and Lobster?
“Also, they missed the bread presentation ceremony,” one user joked. Another guessed, “In the White House kitchen. Since they haven’t started cooking yet and are just marinating, they might have been brought in for Melania’s birthday today!”
Another comment: “Well, one thing you know is that it probably can’t be donated to a soup kitchen, because the Democrats have regulated it so much that once the food is served on a plate or prepared, it can’t be donated because human hands have touched it.”
Another wrote: “This might have been served to hotel guests at their Sunday Brunch.” Someone else added, “Trump wants WHCD rescheduled… so maybe you can get your steak and lobster.”
