Iranian state media reported on Friday that if the US continues its naval blockade, Iran will consider it a violation of the ceasefire and close the Strait of Hormuz.
Citing a “reliable source” close to the Supreme National Security Council, the media reported that the reopening of the strait “depends on the observance of certain conditions and a ceasefire in Lebanon.”
Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz was “fully open” but that the blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place.
Iran kept these conditions
According to state media reports, Iran has set three conditions to allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s terms are as follows:
- Ships should be commercial only, not military. The ships and the goods loaded in them should not belong to any enemy country.
- The ships must pass only through the route determined by Iran.
- The passage of ships must be coordinated with the IRGC.
This statement comes after the statement given by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday, in which he said that the strait will remain completely open till the ceasefire remains in force in Lebanon.
In a public statement he said, “In view of the ceasefire in Lebanon, passage through the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels is declared fully open for the remaining period of the ceasefire.”
Will this war end?
President Donald Trump indicated on Friday that he expects to reach a peace deal with Iran in the coming days. This could end the ongoing war with Iran, as the administration is considering a second round of talks in Pakistan. In an interview, Trump said peace talks would “probably” take place this weekend.
“Most of the main points have been decided. It will move forward very quickly,” he told the news agency. In another interview, Trump said that he hoped to reach an agreement soon.
“The Iranians want to meet. They want to get a deal. I think there will probably be a meeting over the weekend. I think we’ll get a deal in the next day or two,” he said.
Iran’s ambassador to Islamabad, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, praised the efforts of all sides towards “giving diplomacy a chance”, as a ceasefire has been reached between Lebanon and Israel and Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz.
