President Donald Trump today threatened Iran, telling the country’s leaders that time is running out to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump has threatened to target Iran’s power facilities if Tehran does not reopen the vital sea route by his April 6 deadline.
What did Trump say?
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Remember when I gave Iran 10 days to make a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz? Time is running out – after 48 hours they will be devastated. Glory be to God!”
When Trump first made this threat late last month, he said that the country had only 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz. He then extended that deadline by a few days, and then postponed it to April 6, as he said negotiations were going very well.
During his address at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would naturally open once the conflict ends.
Trump said, “They’re going to want to sell oil, because it’s the only thing they have to try to rebuild the country. Oil will start flowing again and gas prices will come down sharply.”
Iran is giving a befitting reply
Iran said today it would allow ships carrying “essential goods” to pass through the congested Strait of Hormuz, according to state news agency Tasnim. But it is unclear which goods Iran considers “essential,” or whether it will continue its blockade of ships from countries it considers enemy states.
‘Trump will definitely attack’
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham said today President Donald Trump listened to him, and after a phone call, he is confident that the President will follow through on his threat to attack Iran’s power plants if Iran does not make a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
