The opposition in Israel has launched a scathing attack on the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He said that Netanyahu has thrown the army into war without any strategy. Opposition leader Yair Lapid has warned that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are on the verge of collapse.
IDF Chief warned
This statement has come at a time when on Thursday (26 March) Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir had said that due to the increasing pressure of war and severe shortage of soldiers, the Israeli army could ‘weak from within and break’.
In the Security Cabinet meeting, the IDF Chief said that recruitment law, reserve duty law and a law increasing compulsory military service should be made as soon as possible. If these steps are not taken, the army will soon not be able to function normally and the reserve system will also break down.
‘The government is leaving the army wounded in the war’
“I want to warn Israeli citizens – we are facing another security disaster. I’m talking 10 red flags. The IDF is on the verge of collapse,” said Yair Lapid, head of the main opposition party Yes Atid.

Reserve soldiers are completely tired – opposition leader
He further said that the Chief of Staff told the Cabinet that he now had no other way to mobilize reserve troops. Their reserve soldiers are in their sixth and seventh rounds. These reserve soldiers are completely exhausted, and are no longer able to meet our security challenges. The Chief of Staff told the Cabinet that the regular army was in a state of complete collapse. The army does not have enough soldiers for its operations. The Chief of Staff briefed the Cabinet on a range of threats, most of which cannot be mentioned on camera, but the gist is this: the government is sending the army into a multi-front war with no strategy, no resources and very few troops.
‘Netanyahu will not be able to say – I am not responsible for this’
Lapid said this time the government would not be able to say, “I didn’t know.” This is the same Chief of Staff whom he himself appointed, and he will no longer be able to put all the blame on him by playing politics with him. Prime Minister Netanyahu will no longer be able to say, “I am not responsible for this.” This warning was given by the Chief of Staff, but there is no one in the security system who does not support this warning. He said that the government will now have to give up cowardice.
The Israeli opposition leader appealed to Netanyahu to recruit people from the ultra-Orthodox Haredi community into the army and send them to war. He said that the government will have to fight Jewish terrorism in every possible way. I want to tell the Israeli government that a warning has been given. Its entire responsibility is now on your head. It is now in your hands. In a time of war, you cannot continue to ignore Israel’s security like this for your own petty politics.
