US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet in Beijing on May 14-15. It has been rescheduled after the tour was postponed once amid the US and Israel’s ongoing war with Iran. This visit of Trump is being considered very important in many ways. This will be the first visit by an American President to China in almost 10 years.
Trump’s visit to China approved
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt said, “Trump’s long-awaited meeting with President Xi in China will now take place in Beijing on May 14 and 15. First Lady Melania and President Trump will host President Xi and Madam Peng in Washington, DC, for a counter-visit, with a date to be announced later this year.”
Two superpowers will meet in Beijing
While posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, ‘My meeting with President Xi Jinping, which was originally postponed due to our military operation in Iran, has now been rescheduled and will take place in Beijing on May 14 and 15. First Lady Melania and I will host President Xi and Madame Peng for a return visit to Washington DC later this year. I look forward to spending time with President Xi in what I am sure will be a historic event.
This visit of Trump is very important in many ways amidst the increasing military tension with Iran in the Middle East. Originally this visit was proposed in the month of March, but it had to be postponed due to the increasing conflict with Iran. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz remains the biggest threat to the global economy. Trump had earlier sought security cooperation in this region from many countries including China, which was rejected by Beijing. It is believed that now the main focus of talks between the two leaders in Beijing will be to restore oil supply because China, which is the largest buyer of Iran’s crude oil, has the ability to put pressure on Tehran.
