Israeli Defense Forces have tried to assassinate Iranian intelligence chief Ismail Khatib. Israeli media has made this big claim quoting sources.

According to the Jerusalem Post, some Iranian media outlets also reported that an attempted attack had been made, although there was no information on Khatib’s condition.

A source confirmed to the Jerusalem Post on Wednesday that the assassination attempt was carried out on Tuesday night. The source also said that although the attack was successful, no definite results have emerged yet.

Sulemani also died

This attempt took place shortly after the killing of Ali Larijani. Ali Larijani had worked as the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and was assassinated on Monday night.

Larijani, 67, who was a close ally of Ali Khamenei and his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, died after an attack on Monday night. It marks the loss of the most senior figure in Tehran’s leadership since the conflict began 19 days ago.

Additionally, Iranian state media confirmed on Tuesday that the head of the Basij forces, Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani, was also killed in the attack by the “American-Jewish enemy”. Soleimani had led the internal security forces for six years and was considered a key figure in the military response.

What did Abbas Araghchi say?

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stressed that the country’s political structure remains a “very solid structure” and that Iran’s leadership “will not suffer any fatal blow” following the confirmed assassination of Ali Larijani.

“I don’t know why the Americans and Israelis still don’t understand this: the Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong political structure, with established political, economic and social institutions,” Araghchi said.

The External Affairs Minister stressed that “the presence or absence of any one individual has no bearing on this structure.” He said that although “individuals are influential, and everyone plays their role – some better, some worse, some less – but what matters is that the political system in Iran is a very solid structure.”

Araghchi also recalled the earlier loss of the country’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on February 28 during the initial phase of US-Israeli strikes. He commented that despite huge national losses, “the system continued to work.”
