Amidst the ongoing war with America and Israel, Iran has announced its new successor. Iran’s Assembly of Experts on Sunday unanimously elected Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Husseini Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This decision has been taken after the death of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israeli air strikes on February 28. So let us know who is Mojtaba Ayatollah on whose shoulders the responsibility of Iran has been entrusted.
Iran has officially confirmed the appointment of Mojtaba Ayatollah as the new Supreme Leader. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also congratulated Mojtaba for the new responsibility. The Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 Shia clerics, appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third supreme leader after a decisive vote. This announcement was made after midnight, after which it was also officially announced by the Iranian media.
Mojtaba Khamenei becomes the new Supreme Leader of Iran
After the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country has now found a new Supreme Leader. His son Mojtaba Khamenei has been elected the new Supreme Leader of Iran. Mojtaba was born in 1969 in Mashhad. He received religious education and was also associated with the Revolutionary Guard in the last years of the Iran–Iraq War. For a long time he was considered a close associate and informal advisor of his father. However, there has often been controversy regarding his religious qualifications.
Mojtaba Khamenei (56 years old) is the second eldest son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Mojtaba never held any major government post, but was considered an influential figure in political circles. His strong ties with the military and paramilitary forces have been discussed. His name also came up during the protests in Iran in 2009. Some critics alleged that he played a role in tightly controlling the demonstrations. However, these allegations were not officially confirmed.
Iran’s Foreign Minister congratulated
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called this decision appropriate. He said, congratulations on the rightful election of His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, which coincides with the first blessed night of Qadr. We promise that, in order to protect the rights of the great Iranian nation, advance national interests and security, and fulfill the larger goals of the Islamic Revolution, we will not retreat even for a moment.
At the same time, the Assembly of Experts has appealed to the Iranian people to remain united and stand in support of the new leader. Mojtaba is considered a radical, which could increase tensions with America, Israel and Western countries. Mojtaba Khamenei will now assume responsibility as the religious, political and military head of Iran, where he will have to face major challenges such as war and internal stability. Now it remains to be seen how Mojtaba will get Iran out of this difficult situation, when America is strongly opposing his appointment.
