Nepal Election Result 2026: A new chapter is about to begin in Nepal’s politics. Rapper-turned-politician Balen Sha is heading his Rashtriya Swatra Party (RSP) to a massive majority in the general elections. As the former mayor of Kathmandu, he has gained immense popularity among the youth and Generation Z. He has left Nepali Congress and CPN-UML behind and is on track to become the next Prime Minister of Nepal. In such a situation, the question arises that what effect will Balen Shah’s becoming Prime Minister have on Nepal’s relations with India? What is his attitude towards India?
Nepal Election Commission has released the initial trends of the country’s general elections. In this, Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading on 98 seats, Nepali Congress on 11 seats and CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist) on 11 seats. In such a situation, the victory of RSP in the elections and Balen Shah becoming the Prime Minister is considered almost certain.
Who is Balen Shah?
Balen Shah’s political journey is extraordinary. He was elected Kathmandu Mayor as an independent candidate in 2022. After this he focused on issues like cleanliness, traffic and environmental improvements of the city. His songs have focused on corruption and social issues, which attract a lot of youth.
Balen Shah also has deep connections with India. He is a civil engineer by profession. He has done Masters in Structural Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka.
Balen’s stance has been anti-India
However, some of his decisions are considered anti-India. In 2023, he put a map of ‘Greater Nepal’ in his office, in which some areas of India like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and parts of West Bengal were shown in Nepal. This was in response to the ‘Akhand Bharat’ graffiti in the new Parliament of India.
Balendra Shah had also objected to a dialogue ‘Sita is India’s daughter’ in Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan’s film ‘Adipurush’. He called it an attack on Nepal’s cultural identity and demanded a ban on Indian films. It is believed that Mother Sita was born in Janakpur, located in the south-east of Nepal.
In the year 2025, Balen Shah had posted on social media, in which he used abusive language against India, America and China. However later he deleted this post. His party’s manifesto emphasizes a balanced foreign policy.
Will become the youngest Prime Minister of Nepal
Let us tell you that after the Gen-Z movement last year, general elections have been held in Nepal. Due to these demonstrations, the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign from his post and the Parliament was dissolved. If RSP wins majority in Nepal’s general elections, 35-year-old Balen can become Nepal’s youngest Prime Minister.
