US War Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the Iranian commander who tried to assassinate President Donald Trump in 2024 has been captured and killed in ‘Operation Epic Fury’ against the Middle East country.
“Yesterday, the leader of the unit that attempted to assassinate President Trump was found and killed.”
“Iran tried to kill President Trump, and in the end, President Trump won,” Hegseth said at a press conference. However, he did not reveal the identity of the man.
‘We will have control over Iranian skies in a week’: US
Speaking at the conference, Hegseth also said that the world’s two most powerful air forces would have complete control of Iranian skies within a week. “The US will use unlimited stocks of precision gravity bombs,” Hegseth added. He added, “When they are down, we are attacking them.”
In July 2024, a man shot Donald Trump in broad daylight in Butler, Pennsylvania, while he was campaigning for president. Trump, who was the former President of the United States at the time, was injured after the assassination attempt as the attacker’s bullet missed his ear.
A 20-year-old man named Thomas Crooks fired eight rounds at Trump from the roof of a nearby building. The US Secret Service shot Crooks dead on the spot, preventing him from firing any more shots at Trump.
The US Justice Department has charged an Iranian man in connection with an alleged plot by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to assassinate Trump.
