US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US has launched “major combat operations” in Iran, and warned that American people could also be killed in it. Trump said that these attacks were carried out with the aim of destroying Iranian missiles and destroying its navy.

Trump says that if Iran advances its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, he will attack it again. “My administration has taken every possible step to reduce the risk to the American people in this region. Yet, and I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian government wants to kill,” Trump said in a video shared on Truth Social.

‘Our people can also be killed’

“Brave American heroes may die and our people may die, which often happens in war, but we’re doing it, not for now. We’re doing it for the future, and it’s a noble mission,” Trump said.

The Pentagon said on X that the US military has named this operation “EPIC FURY”. This is the second time the US has attacked Iran since Trump returned to the White House last year. The first occurred in June when Washington launched several attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites.

‘Expected to last for many days’

A US official told Reuters that Saturday’s attacks, unlike previous attacks, were expected to last for several days. Tehran is preparing to retaliate, the answer to which will be very bad.

The Israeli military said that Tehran fired missiles towards Israel in response. In his message, Trump asked members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s armed forces, to lay down their weapons, and promised they would be given immunity.

According to Trump, the second option is “certain death.” Washington and Tehran have held several talks in recent weeks about Iran’s nuclear intentions. The most recent talks on Thursday ended without a deal. Trump said, “Iran refused, as it has for decades. They rejected every opportunity to abandon their nuclear intentions, and we cannot afford that anymore.”

Trump encouraged Iranians to take over the government

The president first floated the idea of attacking Iran in January after two weeks of nationwide protests, during which authorities killed thousands of people. He warned that the US would come to their rescue if Iranian authorities shot and killed protesters. Trump later encouraged protesters to continue protesting, saying help was on the way.

Trump mentioned the killing of protesters during his statement on the attacks, and told Iranians to hide because bombs would fall “everywhere”. He said, “When we’re finished, take over your government. It will be yours. It may be your only chance for generations.”
