When Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Israeli Parliament Knesset, the MPs stood up and welcomed him. During this, applause kept echoing in the Parliament for several minutes.
During this, the MPs present there also raised slogans of ‘Modi-Modi’.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana warmly welcomed PM Modi in the Israeli Parliament. Speaking in Hindi, Ohana said, “Welcome to Jerusalem. Welcome to the Knesset.”
Earlier, after the welcome ceremony at Ben Gurion Airport, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and PM Modi sat for a private meeting at the airport. In footage shared from Netanyahu’s office, Netanyahu happily tells PM Modi, “This is a relationship, a true friendship,” and in response PM Modi smiles and pats Netanyahu on the back.
Welcoming PM Modi in the Knesset, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Let me tell you, Narendra, my dear friend, I am very, very happy with your coming here today. I have never been happier with your coming here than as a great friend of Israel, a great champion of the India-Israel alliance, a great leader on the world stage. My dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and your special delegation are welcome in Jerusalem.”
He added, “I would almost dare say, more than a friend, a brother. Now, the last time you were here, we, both of us, were on the Mediterranean Coast, and I said, why don’t we take off our shoes and go into the water? We didn’t walk on water, but we’ve done miracles since then. Because what we’ve done is we’ve doubled our trade, tripled our cooperation, quadrupled our understanding.”
